Moving up from RF to mmWave

Now that millimetre wave operation has become a key enabler for modern wireless applications, such as 5G, WiGig, car radar and advanced imaging systems, RF engineers are being asked to ‘move up’ in frequency. While there are many system level benefits in using the mm wave spectrum (such as wider available channel-bandwidths and smaller antennas), engineering at mm wave frequencies introduces fresh challenges, which require RF engineers to develop a new skill set. In this seminar, we shall discuss some of the key differentiators between mm wave engineering and RF engineering, and introduce specific mm wave system building blocks, design considerations and measurement set-ups.
